I once designed a software product using something I called "cryptoware." The idea was that the current release already contained all the features for the upcoming releases, but didn't tell how to access them. The upgrades consisted of telling people how to access the hidden features.

It appears that Adobe has done something similar in the new (5.4) version of Adobe Camera Raw. After opening a JPEG image in Camera Raw, I was trying to recover some highlights that were obviously unrecoverable. Instead of an error message, the program displayed this face showing its disapproval.

I imagine that future versions of this software will incorporate speech facility. If playing with the "Recovery" and "Exposure" sliders doesn't fix the image, you'll hear something like:

"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."
