Photography becomes art - Fantasy at Ida Lee
<< Older  Sep 24, 2007  Newer >>
One day last winter, the Hobbitt and I took a drive up to Ida Lee Park. It's in Leesburg, about twenty miles north of us. On a winter's day, there's not much to photograph. All that I came away with was this shot of some trees, reflected in the water, with a cloudless sky behind them.

Not much, but it's a starting place. Let's see how far we can take this simple image.

Tree reflected in water - by Tony Karp
Here's the starting point
If a picture is worth 1000 words, this one is only worth about 500.

As a first step, the image is strengthened
The colors and the contrast are boosted, but it's still not that interesting.

Adding some fantasy
Glowing trees against a dark and ominous sky. You almost expect to see an elf, or perhaps a hobbit, peeking out from behind a tree.

Fiddling with the colors
Adding the reds and deep blues helps a little. Not bad, but I wanted a horizontal picture.

Can you really do that?
The vertical image is now in a horizontal format. How do you do that?
