Statistical Package for Web Sites ( http://www.web-scope.com )
A new methodology for gathering and displaying web site statistics in real time. Includes the number of visitors, visitor's origin, links to site, and browser information. Also generates performance measurement and troubleshooting information about the web server itself. Written in Perl.

Tools for Web Site Construction and Maintenance
Includes a 'gallery editor' that lets you drag and drop images to create art galleries, then generates the HTML code. Also, a Windows-based editor that links to Unix editors on the web server to speed up creation of CGI scripts. Web robots that act as agents in performing Internet-related tasks.

 

Data Search Facility - Chase Manhattan Bank
Application written Visual Basic 3 and Access 2. Builds a consolidated database from 13 branch offices (90,000 records). Easy-to-use interface for simple and complex queries. Works as standalone or LAN-based multi-user. Uses SQL to define database and for database queries.

 

Project-Scope - TLC Systems
Project management outlining system. Written in Visual Basic. A high-level system that allows a senior manager to quickly lay out a schedule for a project. Produces reports which can include graphics. Style sheets are used to set the report format.

 

Management Consulting - ADP Proxy Services
Re-design topology of existing Token Ring network to a backbone design. Evaluate and recommend tools for network management. Develop plan for implementing Mainframe application development on LAN-based workstations.

 

Document Image Retrieval System - Chase Manhattan Bank
This client/server system automates the retrieval and delivery of documents for the Credit Card division . Requests for documents are downloaded from the mainframe and loaded into a Sybase SQL Server database. Documents are digitized by scanners and transmitted to delivery servers at remote sites where they can be printed or integrated into the workflow of other systems. This system is the heart of Chase's Image Strategy and document distribution methodology. Object-Oriented design. Written in ENFIN/Smalltalk. System Architect, overall system design, Project Leader, database design, design and coding of Digitizer Workstation and Document Delivery Servers.

 

Letter Printing System - Chase Manhattan Bank
EASEL application that handles the printing of all letters for the Fraud division of Chase Manhattan Bank. LAN-based workstation with operator interface controls printing operations. Merges multiple letter types with database information.

 

Statement Preview System - Chase Manhattan Bank
Used for previewing credit card statements before printing is done. Statement records are downloaded to PC to be displayed and printed by an EASEL application. Includes a facility for easily downloading mainframe files.

 

Assorted Projects - Walt Disney Imagineering
Preliminary Ride Control design for a new attraction (Twilight Zone Tower of Terror). Design of a control system for an experimental ride concept (Toontown). Controls projectors, lights, special effects, and a simulator ride (like Star Tours). Project leader for definition of next generation control systems for rides and shows.

 

EASEL Front End / CCLS - Chase Manhattan Bank
A PC-based front end to an existing mainframe system (3270). This EASEL system, gives the users access to a large internal data base (DB2) containing information about the bank's customers and their contacts within the bank.

 

EASEL Programming Tools - Chase Manhattan Bank
Programming tools that extend the capabilities of EASEL DOS, OS/2 and Windows. Allow definition and maintenance of interfaces (GUI) that cannot be built with standard EASEL tools. Other tools add conditional compilation.

 

Mutual Fund Software - Lieber & Co.
Interface to Quotedial (Quotron) market data service. Real time interface to Comstock market data satellite feed. Pricing and dividend software. Used in pricing the company's mutual funds (Evergreen).

 

Bill of Rights Computer System - Bill of Rights Tour - Philip Morris
Multi-media pavilion controlled by network of PCs. Master Computer oversees operation and cues computers handling audio, video, lighting, motion control, and environment. Network of touch-screen terminals is used for editing and running shows, displaying information.. System Architect, overall system design, Master Computer system design, communications.

 

Bricoleur ™ - Development System for the Macintosh
High-level development system for writing Macintosh prototypes and applications. An interactive learning and program development environment, Bricoleur also provides a platform for porting IBM PC applications to the Macintosh.

 

ADP Branch Office System - Merrill Lynch
Performance and response-time measurement to ensure contract compliance. Statistical studies of message traffic and access to customer information. Designs for alternate system architectures and information distribution. Tools for remote troubleshooting for branch offices. Documentation and illustrations.

 

StreetSense - Citibank
StreetSense delivers stock market data to remote customer PCs. A number of studies were done: a study of stock market data flow, a study to estimate the number of users that could be supported by a regional distribution system, a study of distribution methods for stock market data.

 

Online Performance Monitor - Citibank
A performance monitoring system for a Stratus-based stock market data system. Gathers and coordinates information on the flow of market data, user requests, application performance, and system performance.

 

Model-Scope™ - Macintosh
A data communications network modeling tool that runs on an Apple Macintosh computer. Model-Scope makes full use of the Macintosh interface and graphics.

 

Vendor Selection - Merrill Lynch
Vendor selection for market data system, networks, workstation hardware. Reports on PC clones and PC power requirements. Technical illustrations of existing Merrill Lynch networks.

 

Citicorp Portfolio Analyst - Citibank
A micro-mainframe application designed for managers of large pension funds. Data prepared on the mainframe is automatically downloaded to the customer's PC for display and reports. Overall design, data communications, security, user manual.

 

Citicomm Communications Language - Citibank
A computer language for writing data communications procedures. It works from scripts and parameter files. Has numerous diagnostic, debugging, and performance measurement facilities. Has been incorporated into a number of Citibank Products.

 

Citilink Micro-Mainframe Link - Citibank
Citilink is a Micro-Mainframe link and Application Programming Interface (API) written in Citicomm. A matching application is on the mainframe for high-speed, error-free file transfers. VM/CMS, MVS/TSO, VAX/VMS, Stratus, DEC 20.

 

Message-Scope - Macintosh
A data communications tool that turns a Macintosh computer into a data communications analyzer. Written in Pascal and assembler.

 

Touch-Screen Graphics System - Merrill Lynch
System uses touch screen and color graphics to interact with customers in a brokerage. Users direct the system by touching the screen and receive financial information as text and graphs. Written in EASEL.

 

Office Automation System - AT&T
Combination of Wang word processing systems and a distributed network of Wang OIS systems with remote links to offices in New York and New Jersey. Linked spreadsheets consolidate budgets. Estimated savings of $145,000 per year.

 

Electronic Mail System - AT&T
Links management in a five-building complex, remote offices, and personnel on the road. Linked to terminals at the users' desks via the internal phone network.

 

Distribution Requirements Processing System - Group W Cable
Controls purchasing and distribution of cable TV equipment. Coordinates requirements from franchises and projects up to one year in advance. Designed to be used by corporate executives. Projections saved $330,000 the first year.

 

Franchise Information System - Group W Cable
Collects data and prints reports about cable TV franchises. Tracks company-owned earth stations, construction costs, service calls and installations.

 

Capital Spending Monitoring System - Group W Cable
Monitors and analyzes budgets, commitments, and spending for several hundred projects. Tracks spending and commitments against percentage of project completed so budget variances can be spotted while there is still time to take action.

Field Concentrator Design - Los Alamos Laboratories
A system of environmentally hardened remote microcomputers that does data acquisition, monitors access and reports fires. Designed the real-time executive, data acquisition, and other time-critical portions.

 

Micro-Mainframe Interface - Nassau County P.D.
A combination of hardware and software design that links a 1000-car vehicle status system (Rydax) to an IBM mainframe.


1979 to 1980 -- Conversational Systems Corporation
 
Network Control Program (NCP) - Citibank
An interface to an ARPANET style network using an X.25 (Telenet) protocol. Runs on DEC hardware under RSX-11M.

 

Signature Verification System
A combination hardware and software design that charts a curve of pressure versus time to verify written signatures. Designed for the banking environment.


1977 to 1979 -- TLC Systems

Security and Access System - J.C. Penney Headquarters
A separate microcomputer in each of three buildings monitors access to areas within the buildings as well as fire alarms and life hazard alarms.

 

Computer-Controlled Camera System - Ben Rose
Pan, tilt, zoom, lighting, and strobe lights under control of a microcomputer system. (See American Photographer, November, 1979.)


1975 to 1977 -- Driver Training Institute

Maneuvering Simulator
A mockup of the cab of a tractor trailer with all controls. Teaches maneuvering and backing techniques. Uses a remote controlled model and video system to simulate the actual environment. Has two computers and a radio control system.

 

Shifting Simulator
A cab-style simulator designed to teach proper shifting techniques. The motor control is directed by an analog computer and a microcomputer.


1971 to 1975 -- Lowell Light Corporation

New product design
Lowell Light manufactures motion picture lighting equipment. The work consisted of designing new products and bringing them to market, setting up manufacturing facilities. Dealing with patent lawyers, vendors, and subcontractors.


1967 to 1971 -- Discovery Technology Corporation

Computer-Controlled Zoom Lens
Used to shoot the opening scene of "The Godfather" Nominated for an Academy Award for technical achievement. In use in the United States and Europe where it has been used on a number of movies and television commercials.

 

"Snorkel" lens
Special purpose lens for motion picture or TV cameras. Close-ups of small subjects have the same perspective as life-size equivalents.

 

Special effects for TV commercials
The special effects included time lapse, slow motion photography, stroboscopic effects, special zooms, and animation.


1959 to 1967 -- Writing and Photography

Grey Advertising (National Broadcasting Company)
All of the on-the-air promotional photography for NBC’s 1959 fall season. Included location photography in New York and Los Angeles. This work won two Art Directors Awards.
National Broadcasting Company
Numerous assignments for NBC’s On-the-Air Promotion Department. Assignments included sports photography, dramas, live events. A number of these ran as full-page photos in the New York Times.
Mechanix Illustrated
A series of four articles on state of the art (solid state) construction projects. Included Geiger counter, lie detector, electronic flash.
Modern Photography
